Aspire Welfare Community Group, in partnership with Mind Reflex and Didsbury Mosque, launched the Mind Reflex Project to provide asylum seekers and refugees with free mental health support. Expert psychologist Dr. Zeyad Algroshy delivered a lecture on 22/05/2023 on the mental health challenges faced by parents in raising their children to initiate the project. Additionally, one-to-one face counseling sessions were made available to asylum seekers that respected confidentiality and lasted for 30 minutes.
These counseling sessions provided a safe space for asylum seekers and refugees to express their concerns in their language to professionals who understood their culture and assist with the challenges they face, including depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and other mental health issues. We express our gratitude to Mindflex, Didsbury Mosque, and our dedicated volunteers, who are working hard to support refugees and asylum seekers in accessing mental health services and to help them engage, be participate, and be active in the community.
